General Summary:
Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with ICU experience in taking care of complicated patients. Purpose: Perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks, and assist in providing health care surgical patients. Organizational Relationships: Reports directly to the Chief Physician Extender for all non-patient administrative responsibilities. Reports directly to the Attending Surgeons for all patient care related functions. Responsibilities: 1.) Assist the surgeon and critical care intensivist in the perioperative care of patients. 2.) Assist in making rounds with the surgeon on SICU, 5 CN step down and 5 North. 3.) Assist the surgeon in care of postoperative patients in the Ernst Clinic. 4.) Pre-oping and discharging patients on the CVS service. 5.) Participate in meetings, educational programs, review of patient records, clinical research, and other elected projects.

Qualifications:
1.) Must be eligible for or have a valid Michigan license to practice as a PA/NP. 2.) Must be eligible for or have obtained certification by the NCCPA, American Academy of NP in Acute Critical Care or Adult Gerontology or ANCC. Criteria for Performance Evaluation: Performance will be judged by: 1.) The effectiveness and accuracy with which responsibilities are initiated and executed. 2.) The extent of cooperation with the physicians, nursing personnel, and diagnostic testing personnel to ensure a smoothly coordinated effort in the delivery of quality patient care. 3.) Meeting the necessary requirements for certification and recertification. 4.) The degree of support given the Chief Nurse executive, Attending Surgeons, and Resident Surgical house staff, in identifying, communicating, and assisting in the solution of department and patient care problems. 5.) The courtesy shown to patients and their families within the hospital.
