Position Description:


The open position is for a Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) who delivers direct patient care in the pain management specialty as a provider in collaboration with the Medical Director at Coastal Bend Pain Management.


Education and/or Experience:



Graduate or Advanced Degree as a Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP)

NP: Current, unencumbered licensure to practice as an APRN through the Texas Board of Nursing and current NP certification in any of the adult-focused NP specialties, to include family, adult, gerontology

PA-C: Current, unencumbered licensure to practice as a Physician’s Assistant through the Texas Physician Assistant Board and current PA certification through the NCCPA.

Current eligibility for prescriptive authority – Coastal Bend Pain Management Medical Director to serve as supervising physician for incumbent

Current DEA License

Current BLS for Healthcare Providers and ACLS Certification


Duties and Responsibilities:


Under the direction of the Medical Director, the incumbent will be responsible for medical evaluation and assessment of acute and chronic pain, associated physical examination, ordering and review of diagnostic imaging and testing, prescribing medications, ordering interventional procedures, and appropriate documentation in alignment with current E&M, CPT, and ICD 10 coding for established patients. Other duties in the following areas could include:



Obtain and verify medical history to include, but not limited to, chief complaint, past medical and surgical history, family medical history, social history, medications, allergies, care planning, and determine which initial therapies and diagnostics have been completed previously.

Measure, track, and record physiologic and growth data, as well as apply health promotion principles and techniques, patient education, and ensure continuity of care.

Provides acute and chronic patient care including physical examination, monitoring and evaluation of therapies, administering injections, minor office surgical procedures, and prescribing medications.

Collaborate effectively with other team members, including physician(s), registered nurses, medical assistants, administration, and other employees.

Communicate regularly and succinctly with Medical Director, Administration, and other organizational stake holders.

Triage patient calls and take appropriate action and follow up, including after-hours patient calls on a rotating basis and take appropriate action and follow up

Respond to medical emergencies by taking appropriate action if needed

Maintain patient confidentiality in alignment with HIPAA Privacy and Security rules.

Review labs, diagnostic studies, and physical therapy progress notes.

Document accurately and completely all pertinent information in the patient’s medical record within 24-48 hours of patient encounter.

Participates in continuing medical education that contributes to individual, professional, and organizational growth.

Perform duties according to established performance-improvement policies and procedures

Act as a good steward of facility resources.

Follow established policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Respond to management direction and maintain accountability for actions, commitments, and performance.

Accept feedback and constructive criticism towards professional development and continuous improvement.

Report any unsafe work condition or practice to Administration.

Support organizational mission and vision feedback and provide exceptional patient service.
