Lurie Children’s Division of Neurosurgery provides specialized and evidence-based approaches to diagnosing and treating children’s conditions involving the brain and nervous system. The entire staff is dedicated to evaluating and treating infants, children and teens.The role is unique to the Physician Assistants specialty area and in accordance with individual credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff Office.

Responsibilities:
1. Works both independently and as a team member to support the inpatient and outpatient team in the care of patients from birth to young adulthood with diagnoses including but not limited to neural tube defects, brachial plexus injury, brain and spine tumors, cerebral palsy, Chiari malformation, hydrocephalus, and traumatic brain injury
2. Collaborates with the inpatient team to provide support for patients on the acute care neurosurgery floor as well as consults requested on neurosurgical patients who are hospitalized on other services (NICU, PICU, ED, etc.)
3. Performs procedures such as shunt and ommaya taps as well as re programing shunts
4. Obtains treatment and procedure consents
5. Educates families on new diagnosis, treatment and care needs in addition to answering questions
6. Ensures proper follow-up appointments are secured
7. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree from a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program required.
2. 2 years of clinical patient care experience preferred. Pediatric experience strongly preferred.
3. Active licensure in the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant is required.
4. Experience as delineated in clinical privileges through credentialing by the Medical Staff Office.
5. Basic Life Support certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required in some specialty areas.
6. Any other certification required for specialty area.
7. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
8. Ability to work in a collaborative environment with physicians, residents, advanced practice nurses, nurses, administrative manager and directors and support staff thereby creating a cohesive well developed team.

Location: Main campus. Outpatient clinical services may be delivered at a satellite location necessitating access to personal transportation.
